John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN (1978) spawned a slasher movie trend that changed American horror forever. In addition to the Carpenter and Hill penned movie, we look at two films whose stories sprang from urban legends: WHEN A STRANGER CALLS (1979) starring Carol Kane and Charles Durning, and HE KNOWS YOU'RE ALONE (1980) which features young Tom Hanks, a cavernous morgue, and the worst detective in the tri-state area.

Join us as we get philosophical about the nature of good and evil (no, seriously) while we discuss two Jim Henson classics: THE DARK CRYSTAL (1982) and LABYRINTH (1986), starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. 

We conclude the series with two films directed by F. Gary Gray, stoner comedy FRIDAY (1995) and bank heist drama SET IT OFF (1996) before finishing with the Wayans Brothers parody DON'T BE A MENACE TO SOUTH CENTRAL WHILE DRINKING YOUR JUICE IN THE HOOD (1996).

We look at SUGAR HILL (1993) which re-teams Wesley Snipes and New Jack City writer Barry Michael Cooper, FRESH (1994) starring a young Sean Nelson in the title role, and the Hughes Brothers' masterpiece DEAD PRESIDENTS (1995).

We discuss DEEP COVER (1992) TRESPASS (1992) and JUDGMENT NIGHT (1993).

We dig into Ernest R. Dickerson's genre mash-up JUICE (1992) and the Hughes Brothers's unflinching MENACE II SOCIETY (1993).

We kick off our new series with two stunning feature film directorial debuts from 1991: Mario Van Peebles's classic American gangster film, NEW JACK CITY, and John Singleton's epic drama, BOYZ N THE HOOD.

Join us to celebrate Ray Harryhausen's career capstone CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981) as well as John Boorman's heavy metal/folk horror version of the legend of King Arthur, EXCALIBUR (1981).

We bring the Star Wars series to a close with the He-Man movie that is not a He-Man movie, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (1987), the animated grotesquerie STARCHASER: THE LEGEND OF ORIN (1985), and Mel Brooks's masterpiece, SPACEBALLS (1987).

We revel in the Amblin-esque tale of a boy recruited for a space war in THE LAST STARFIGHTER (1984) and then go deep into the fantastic world of David Lynch's DUNE (1984).
