We break with our usual format to discuss notorious box-office bomb ISHTAR (1987) starring Warren Beatty & Dustin Hoffman, and written and directed by Elaine May. This Cold War comedy became a punchline when it was released. But is the joke still funny? Or is the film much better than perceived at the time?

We conclude the Conan series with DEATHSTALKER II (1987) directed by Jim Wynorski, and KULL THE CONQUEROR (1997) as we follow the sword and sorcery genre into its more comic phase as it heads into the ‘90s.

The sword and sorcery movies take a lighter, more comic turn with CONAN THE DESTROYER (1984) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mako, Grace Jones, and Wilt Chamberlain and THE BARBARIANS (1987) starring The Barbarian Bros, directed by Ruggero Deodato in a film Chris dubs “Jersey Yor”.

We look at a pair of movies with source material that’s slightly older than the Conan stories. Join us for an Italian sword and sandal double feature by writer/director/mindbender Luigi Cozzi (Starcrash) and starring the Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno: HERCULES (1983) and THE ADVENTURES OF HERCULES AKA HERCULES II (1985).

It’s Roger Corman Week as we check out two sword and sorcery films he produced: DEATHSTALKER (1983) and THE WARRIOR AND THE SORCERESS (1984) starring David Carradine.

We look at two films from 1983 that broke the 80s sword and sorcery mold, Matt Cimber’s HUNDRA, starring Laurene Landon, and the animated FIRE AND ICE from legendary artists Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta.
